As a disability support service provider based in Queensland, Australia, YOU Queensland offers a range of programs and services aimed at promoting inclusion, independence, and community participation for people with disabilities. Individualized Support Services: YOU Queensland offers individualized support services tailored to meet the unique needs and goals of each participant. These services may include personal care assistance, household tasks, community access support, transportation assistance, and social and recreational activities. About the founders of YOu Queensland

  

YOU Queensland was founded by Kelly and Sara in response to a recognised need for person-centered supports in disability employment within their local region. With over 15 years of combined experience in the Disability Employment Services (DES) sector, Kelly and Sara possessed a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the field.

Throughout their careers in DES, Kelly and Sara held various roles, including on-the-job support, employment consultant, team leader, and regional manager. This diverse range of roles provided them with a well-rounded knowledge of the sector, allowing them to appreciate the complexities of supporting individuals with disabilities in their journey towards meaningful employment.

Despite their transition to founding YOU Queensland, Kelly and Sara remain actively engaged in the DES sector to stay current and informed. They continue to contribute to the field through their involvement as approved assessors on the National Panel of Assessors. In this capacity, Kelly and Sara conduct Supported Wage Assessments and Ongoing Support Assessments, ensuring that individuals with disabilities receive fair and appropriate support within their employment settings.

Kelly Carew is a compassionate and experienced Director at YOU Queensland, with a background in disability support services and a deep commitment to advocating for the rights and well-being of individuals with disabilities. With her warm and empathetic approach, Kelly works closely with NDIS participants and their families to understand their needs, goals, and aspirations, and to develop personalised support plans that address their specific requirements.

With her proactive and solution-focused approach, Sara works tirelessly to ensure that participants receive the assistance and resources they need to thrive and succeed.

This registration reflects Kelly's ongoing commitment to maintaining high standards of practice in her field.

Sara is a dedicated professional who resides and works on the Fraser Coast, bringing over a decade of experience in the Disability Field to her role. With her background in community services and finance, Sara possesses a diverse skill set that allows her to provide comprehensive support to individuals and organisations within the disability sector.

Having worked in the Disability Field for more than 10 years, Sara has gained invaluable experience and insight into the challenges and opportunities facing individuals with disabilities and their support networks. Her passion for making a positive impact in the lives of others is evident in her commitment to her work and the community she serves.

Sara holds a Diploma of Community Services, which has equipped her with the knowledge and skills to support individuals with disabilities in accessing the services and resources they need to thrive. Additionally, her qualifications in bookkeeping and accounting, including a Certificate IV in Bookkeeping and an Advanced Diploma of Accounting, demonstrate her proficiency in financial management and administration.

With her strong background in finance, Sara is well-equipped to assist individuals with disabilities in navigating financial matters, managing budgets, and accessing funding supports available to them. With a diverse professional background that spans over 15 years in both the disability support and hospitality management sectors, Tera’s career reflects a deep commitment to empowering individuals and unlocking their full potential.

Before joining YOU Queensland, Tera accumulated extensive hands-on experience in the hospitality industry, both in Australia and internationally. Her roles in managerial and training capacities within this sector honed her skills in leadership, customer service, and operational excellence. This rich background provided her with a solid foundation in managing diverse teams and delivering exceptional service, all of which she now channels into her work in the disability support field.

Tera’s transition from hospitality to the High Needs Disability Sector was driven by a profound passion for making a meaningful impact in the lives of others. Lily is currently completing her Certificate III in Community Services as a trainee with our team. Having lived and worked in Maryborough for most of her life, Lily has strong connections within the local community and a genuine understanding of the people and families who live here.

Before joining the community services sector, Lily worked in retail, where she developed excellent communication and customer service skills. She also brings valuable lived experience supporting people with disability, which has shaped her compassionate and person-centred approach to her work.

Lily is passionate about learning, building relationships, and making a positive difference in the lives of others. She is excited to grow her skills through her traineeship and contribute to supporting our community.

I enjoy reading and many creative pursuits, including crochet, hand & machine sewing, slow stitching, weaving/basket making with various textiles, paper crafts, air-dry clay creations, mixed media, and watercolour painting. I’m also passionate about gardening and homesteading practices, and I enjoy animal care and welfare. I love spending time in nature through hiking, swimming, and exploring, and relaxing with jigsaw puzzles.



Experience & Interest in Support Work

It’s fair to say that I have always had a caring nature and a desire to help others. My first role in support work was right out of high school when I was hired to care for the daughter of one of my teachers. I’ve also worked independently with clients from Young Care in Brisbane and I have nursing experience from working for Blue Care in Community nursing on the Gold Coast. More recently I have worked in SIL housing with high-needs clients, including clients who were nonverbal, not independently mobile, had behavioural plans, required full Personal Care, and medication administration. I also have long term, lived experience supporting a veteran with complex physical and mental health needs.


What type of participants do you work well with?

I really enjoy working with clients who have, or wish to develop and actively work on, a clear set of goals based on their own personal preferences and abilities.


What does a good day at work look like for you?

A good day is meeting my clients where they are at on any given day, making sure their session is enjoyable and productive based on their chosen goals and desires for that individual day while keeping in mind long term goals and aspirations.
