Throughout their careers in DES, Kelly and Sara held various roles, including on-the-job support, employment consultant, team leader, and regional manager. Before joining the community services sector, Lily worked in retail, where she developed excellent communication and customer service skills. She also brings valuable lived experience supporting people with disability, which has shaped her compassionate and person-centred approach to her work.

It’s fair to say that I have always had a caring nature and a desire to help others. My first role in support work was right out of high school when I was hired to care for the daughter of one of my teachers. I’ve also worked independently with clients from Young Care in Brisbane and I have nursing experience from working for Blue Care in Community nursing on the Gold Coast. More recently I have worked in SIL housing with high-needs clients, including clients who were nonverbal, not independently mobile, had behavioural plans, required full Personal Care, and medication administration. I also have long term, lived experience supporting a veteran with complex physical and mental health needs.

I really enjoy working with clients who have, or wish to develop and actively work on, a clear set of goals based on their own personal preferences and abilities.
What does a good day at work look like for you?
A good day is meeting my clients where they are at on any given day, making sure their session is enjoyable and productive based on their chosen goals and desires for that individual day while keeping in mind long term goals and aspirations.
